]]> Recent analyst indicates an increase of LCD shipments in 2Q12. As reported by DIGITIMES, Taiwan LCD monitor OEMs are estimated to see 6.5% growth in second-quarter shipments amongst increasing demand for desktop PCs, according to industry sources.

That increase is expected to come after a slow first quarter for Taiwan OEMs, which in total saw shipments of just over 25 million units – a decrease of 7.3% compared with the fourth quarter in 2011 and a 16.4% decrease compared with the same period last year –according to Digitimes Research.

DIGITIMES reported some sources that Taiwan brands such as Chimei and BenQ are promoting 24- and 27-inch models to counterbalance the decrease in shipments in hope that their products’ ASP will improve.

“It is predicted that the total amount of monitor shipments from Taiwan makers will be about 110 million units in 2012,” said DIGITIMES.

]]> CES 2012 has showed the next generation electronics, including advanced television technology. One of the most buzzed is OLED televisions. OLED is stand for organic light-emitting diode, and its described by Wiki as “a light-emitting diode (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compounds which emit light in response to an electric current.”

According to Metro, OLED makes for faster, wider, thinner, lighter, brighter and more colourful screens than the current crop of HD and 3D television sets.

Imagine our home with the OLED technology that will increase the efficiency of space and enery consumption. However, consumers should wait for several years again the get the reasonable price.

Michael Kanellos in Forbes writes OLED TVs and lights have been arguably delayed and not lived up to promise, but when you pile all of the circumstances together, there are good reasons to be cautiously optimistic.

]]> westinghouse-lcd-televisions-4258LCD TV Will Remain the #1 TV Technology, says NPD DisplaySearch in a pers release of its  Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report. DisplaySearch added that LCD TV shipments will rise from 206M units in 2011 to 225M units in 2012, an increase of 9%. LCD will account for more than 82% of all global TV shipments in 2011, rising to more than 88% in 2012, as demand for plasma falls and OLED TVs arrive late in the year in small quantities and at high prices.

Currently, LCD presents as a strong competitive technology at all sizes and should climb to more than 95% share by 2014 as CRT fades and OLED is slow to grow.

The report indicates that the worldwide forecast for 3D TVs was slightly increased to more than 23M units in 2011 through better than expected growth in emerging markets and Europe. By contrast, demand in North America has been surprisingly soft for 3D, and may only reach 3.6 million units in 2011 as US consumers remain very price sensitive.  

Speaking to the market area, the  NPD DisplaySearch report shows that the emerging regions, which includes China, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Middle East / Africa, will account for the majority of flat panel TV growth over the next four years, averaging 11% growth each year.

“In fact, China has become the largest market for flat panel TVs and will continue to be throughout the forecast period, ” said the report. The Asia Pacific region is positioned for strongest growth as the late-adopting India market begins to boom.
